Why do some people eat three meals a day while others go hungry? Where does the food that we eat come from? What is the difference between organic and non-organic food? In this session, PEEPs will ask these questions and find out what we can do to help those that are hungry. We will be getting our hands dirty at some local farms and community projects to help provide food for all, and see how what we eat affects our bodies and the environment.

Often we think that we have to leave the city to be in nature, but Portland has more to offer than just roses. In this session, PEEPs will discover the joys and wonders of nature right in our own city. We will explore local parks by foot and the Willamette River by boat. Along the way, we will learn about Portland history, visit cultural sites, and do our part to help Portland be a more beautiful and better place to live for everyone.

With the climate and natural environment rapidly changing, scientists are working harder than ever to learn how to protect our planet, and they need our help. In this session, PEEPs will team up with local biologists and naturalists to turn science into action. We will be doing some hands on research in ponds and forests, and putting our brains into action as we investigate the health of our environment, and see what we can do to protect it.

What do the words "wild" and "wilderness" mean to you? Why is wilderness important? How do we affect our wilderness? In this session, PEEPs will gain a greater understanding of wilderness and learn what we can do to protect it. We will begin this 2 week session by exploring some wilderness areas around Portland to learn and practice Leave-No-Trace skills, animal tracking, and wilderness living techniques, The second week will put our practice into action with a 3 day wilderness overnight trip.

What does it mean to be "Green?" What can I do to save the environment? Protecting our planet can be fun, exciting, and easy. Find out what it means to care for the environment and what we can do to decrease our footprint on this planet. From alternative energy to habitat restoration, PEEPs will explore and participate in fascinating projects that are happening around Portland to protect the Earth.

Water is a vital resource for all life on Earth. Come discover the incredible journey of water from the heights of the clouds down to the deep blue ocean. In this session, PEEPs will explore local watersheds by foot and by boat, from the Cascade Mountains to the Oregon coast. We will be following the cycle of water, learning why it's important, and what we can do to keep our water systems healthy.
